Two people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash that took place west on the 101 Freeway near the Tujunga Avenue exit in Studio City early Tuesday morning.
The crash happened at about 2:30 a.m. A black Kia compact SUV was at rest on the Freeway with two of its occupants standing nearby when a box truck crashed into them and the vehicle.
Both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene, one being an unidentified woman, and one being 31-year-old LA County Deputy Marcos Pena Jr. — who was off-duty at the time of the accident.
LA County Sheriff Robert Luna expressed his grief and condolences toward Pena Jr.’s family and friends in a statement made to local news outlets.
