
OXNARD, CA – A fatal DUI crash in Oxnard left two people dead and a young man under arrest on Sunday morning, August 24, at the intersection of Central Avenue and Santa Clara Avenue in the El Rio community.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a BMW driven by a 19-year-old man from Santa Paula ran a red light and collided head-on with a Chevrolet pickup traveling through the intersection.
Inside the truck were a 75-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman, both residents of Piru, who died at the scene due to the force of the crash. The BMW driver sustained moderate injuries, was transported to a local hospital, and later arrested on suspicion of DUI.
The intersection remained closed for several hours while authorities conducted their investigation. CHP is asking any witnesses with information to call the Ventura-area office at 805-662-2640.
