
BAKERSFIELD, CA — The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified Chasie Cariño, a 23-year-old from Delano, as the victim of the Bakersfield DUI crash early Sunday morning.
The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Panama Lane and Stine Road. Cariño was riding as a passenger when she was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
Her cousin, Chrismat Mateo, shared the family’s grief: “Chasie had her whole future ahead of her; she was about to graduate and become a teacher.”
Cariño was well known in the community for her leadership and dedication. She organized dance workshops, served as a representative of the United Filipino Organizer for Cesar Chavez, and was vice president and cultural dance leader in several organizations. She was also a musician, balancing her love for music with her academic goals.
The family emphasized the seriousness of DUI crashes in Bakersfield and urged drivers to act responsibly and drive sober to save lives.
