ELK GROVE, CA – A 3-year-old girl died Sunday afternoon after being hit by a car in Elk Grove, authorities reported.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the accident occurred around 3:44 p.m. on Point Pleasant Road. A 29-year-old woman was backing her Nissan when she struck the child, who was standing behind the vehicle alongside a 33-year-old man.
Family members called 911 immediately, and crews from the Cosumnes Fire Department performed life-saving measures before transporting the girl to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after.
Authorities stated that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash. The case remains under investigation by the CHP South Sacramento office.
