
SACRAMENTO, CA — A violent crash on U.S. 50, near Camp Sacramento, left a young woman dead and several members of a Woodland family injured Sunday night, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The collision happened at approximately 7:17 p.m., when the driver of a Ford F-250 towing a 32-foot travel trailer lost control while entering a curve at an unsafe speed. The trailer destabilized, crossed over the centerline, and entered the opposite lane.
Traveling eastbound was a Jeep Compass carrying five occupants, all from Woodland. The driver had no time to avoid the oncoming trailer, which struck the front of the Jeep with significant force.
- The crash resulted in severe consequences:
- An 18-year-old woman, seated in the front passenger seat, died at the scene.
- A 16-year-old suffered major injuries.
- A 6-year-old sustained moderate injuries.
- Two other occupants, ages 13 and 37, were treated for minor injuries.
The name of the deceased victim will be released once next of kin has been notified.
CHP investigators are still working to determine the exact cause and sequence of the U.S. 50 crash. Following the collision, the highway was shut down temporarily before one-way traffic control was implemented.
