Azusa Dog Sitters Injured by 4 Pit Bulls [Azusa, CA]

AZUSA, CA (February 28, 2024) — A man and his mother are recuperating after being brutally mauled by four pit bulls they were dog sitting. The incident unfolded just before noon on Tuesday in the 5000 block of N. Orange Crest, where the victims were watching the dogs for a friend.

According to authorities, the attack started in the backyard, prompting a desperate intervention by the man’s mother, which led to her being assaulted as well. Alan Armagnac, identifying the victims as his brother and mother, recounted the ordeal, explaining that they were taking care of the pit bulls as a favor. Tragically, the dogs, along with the family’s own pet, turned aggressive.

Neighbor Biridiana Gutierrez and her mother, Alejandra, witnessed the unsettling scene. Gutierrez described the intensity of the situation, noting the presence of a deputy armed with a beanbag rifle and animal care officers wielding poles with lasso-like hooks to control the dogs. The effort to subdue the animals was fraught, with officers resorting to using a shovel to fend them off.

Ultimately, the dogs were apprehended by animal services, and the man, severely injured, was transported to a hospital with expectations of recovery.

This disturbing event in Azusa occurs in the wake of a similarly tragic incident in Compton, where a man was mauled to death by his own pit bulls.
