Big Rig Driver Injured by Concrete Thrown from Overpass on 101 Freeway [Los Angeles, CA]

LOS ANGELES, CA (March 8, 2024) — A big rig driver suffered injuries and was hospitalized after being struck by a concrete chunk hurled from an overpass onto the 101 Freeway, as confirmed by the Los Angeles Fire Department. 

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. Wednesday while the truck was navigating the southbound lanes beneath the Santa Monica Boulevard overpass.

The truck’s windshield shattered upon impact, with the concrete piece hitting the driver in the chest. Tony’o Hines, who was resting in the truck’s sleeper compartment at the time, recounted the terrifying moment to KCAL News. He described how his wife, the truck’s driver, was startled by a figure on the overpass just before their windshield was breached by the concrete.

Hines detailed the immediate aftermath, highlighting the shock and confusion as he assisted his wife in pulling the vehicle over and contacting emergency services. The driver’s current health status remains undisclosed.

The big rig crash on the 101 Freeway, now under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, raises serious concerns about roadway safety and the dangers posed by such reckless actions.
