
A head-on collision on Highway 165 and Turner Avenue in Merced County at 12:20 a.m. Saturday claimed the lives of a man in his 40s and a child from Ceres.
A 20-year-old female driver, Melissa Rosales, was reportedly speeding in her BMW when she struck a Honda carrying the two victims. The force of the impact proved fatal for both the man and the child, who died at the scene.
Rosales sustained major injuries and was transported to a hospital in Modesto, where investigators later determined she was intoxicated.
She is expected to face charges of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter once she is released from the hospital. The investigation into the crash in Merced County is ongoing.
