A driver was killed and a passenger seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision Wednesday evening on Highway 223 in Kern County.
The crash happened around 7:45 p.m. west of General Beale Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. Investigators said the driver of a westbound Honda sedan lost control and veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with an eastbound Volvo semi-truck and trailer.
The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle was transported to Kern Medical with major injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck was not reported injured. CHP said the cause of the crash remains under investigation, including whether drugs or alcohol played a role.
