A multi-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck on the 10 Freeway in Riverside County killed two men and injured several others early Thursday.
The collision occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. near Date Palm Drive outside Cathedral City, when a westbound big rig lost control, veered across all lanes, and overturned into oncoming traffic in the eastbound lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The semi-truck’s trailer, seen tipping in dashcam footage, crashed through the center median and collided with multiple vehicles. A driver of a Mercury SUV and a passenger in a Toyota Camry were ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, CHP Officer David Torres confirmed.
Several additional injuries were reported, and multiple victims were transported to local hospitals. Authorities have not released the identity or condition of the truck driver.
Traffic was halted in both directions for several hours as officials cleared debris and conducted investigations. All lanes reopened by 2:30 p.m.
