ROSEVILLE, CA – A 9-year-old girl died and a woman was arrested following a crash on Interstate 80 in Roseville early Saturday morning.
The incident occurred around 5:20 a.m. when a 36-year-old woman from Sacramento, driving a white Hyundai Elantra, lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons. The car spun out and became disabled in the far left lane of the interstate.
The driver exited the vehicle and walked to the south shoulder. Despite several near-misses, a red Honda CR-V, carrying two juveniles, crashed into the disabled Elantra. The 9-year-old girl in the Honda was rushed to the hospital but later died. The driver of the Honda was not injured.
The Elantra driver, identified as Ashley Baxter, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of DUI. The Roseville car crash caused a 40-minute traffic diversion while the California Highway Patrol investigated.
