Wrong-Way Driver Collides with CHP Officers on Sacramento Freeway
SACRAMENTO, CA (March 14, 2024) — Two California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers sustained injuries after a wrong-way driver crashed into their patrol car on a Davis freeway, as per Woodland’s CHP division on Wednesday.
The Sacramento car accident occurred around 3 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80, west of Mace Boulevard, shortly after the officers completed a traffic stop.
While the officers were parked along the shoulder, a wrong-way driver approached and collided with their patrol vehicle. Both officers suffered minor-to-moderate injuries, while the wrong-way driver sustained minor injuries.
The reason for the driver’s lane deviation and potential DUI involvement remain under investigation. Expectations are that the number 3 lane of I-80 west of Mace Boulevard will remain closed for an extended period.
