
BAKERSFIELD, CA — A driver who was reportedly speeding to pass multiple vehicles died early Tuesday morning following a head-on crash on Highway 58, east of Interstate 5, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash occurred on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at around 5:40 a.m., near Bussell Road. According to the preliminary investigation, a 40-year-old man from Delano was driving a Jeep Cherokee westbound in the eastbound lane at a high rate of speed while attempting to pass several vehicles.
At the same time, a 50-year-old woman from Lake Havasu, Arizona, was driving a Chrysler 300 eastbound, approaching the Jeep’s location. For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Jeep failed to return to the westbound lane, resulting in a head-on collision with the Chrysler.
The Jeep driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released information about the condition of the Chrysler driver.
CHP stated that speed and reckless driving may have been contributing factors in this fatal accident on Highway 58, east of Bakersfield.
