BPD Launches Program to Combat Impaired Driving Among Youth
BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 9, 2024) —
The Bakersfield Police Department (BPD) has unveiled “A Life Interrupted,” an educational initiative targeting high school students and older, aimed at curbing impaired driving.
This Bakersfield teen driving program delivers a powerful presentation detailing the events leading up to fatal traffic collisions to instill the severe consequences of driving under the influence.
Participants in the program have the unique chance to experience the disorienting effects of impairment firsthand through the use of “Fatal Vision goggles,” simulating the sensation of being under the influence in a controlled, educational setting.
Lt. Joseph Galland, a traffic commander with BPD, emphasized the preventability of such tragedies, stating, “Driving under the influence and crashing into somebody and killing them is not an accident – it’s 100% preventable.”
