Costa Mesa Police Chase Ends in Arrest Over Stolen Car [Costa Mesa, CA]

COSTA MESA, CA (February 22, 2024) — In Costa Mesa on Wednesday, a confrontation between police and a suspect in a stolen vehicle escalated quickly, leading to the arrest of 29-year-old Destiny Sherer. 

The Costa Mesa police chase began when Police Department officers attempted to pull over Sherer, who was driving the stolen car. Instead of complying, Sherer rammed into patrol cars and fled the scene.

The pursuit continued onto local streets, where a motor officer, first to respond as backup, was struck by another vehicle while in pursuit, resulting in minor injuries for the officer. The chase concluded at a shopping center near Harbor Boulevard and Nutmeg Place, where Sherer’s vehicle was found abandoned.

A perimeter was quickly established by arriving units, and Sherer was apprehended inside a store within the shopping plaza. She faces charges including assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a stolen vehicle. Further investigation is underway to explore potential links to burglaries in adjacent areas.
