Driver Convicted After Southern California Sidewalk Hit and Run Incident
FULLERTON, CA (February 16, 2024) — A 27-year-old man, Christopher Solis, was convicted Thursday in a Southern California hit-and-run incident that injured nine people.
While jurors deadlocked on a charge of driving under the influence of drugs, Solis was found guilty of hit-and-run crimes, including causing injuries and property damage.
The incident occurred in February 2019 in Fullerton, where Solis’s Toyota Tacoma veered onto a sidewalk, striking multiple pedestrians before crashing into a palm tree. Bystanders heroically lifted the truck to rescue trapped victims.
Solis claimed the Southern California sidewalk hit and run was really just an accident, stating he was attempting to evade pursuers when his truck was hit by an illegally parked vehicle, causing him to lose control.
Despite the mistrial on the DUI charge, Solis faces serious legal consequences. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office is yet to indicate whether they will retry him on this charge.
