High-Speed Torrance Car Chase Ends in Standoff [Torrance, CA]

TORRANCE, CA (February 13, 2024) — A dramatic high-speed pursuit through Los Angeles County culminated in a standoff at a Torrance apartment complex on Feb. 2, with the suspect arrested after a tense barricade situation. 

The individual, wanted for burglary and considered armed and dangerous, led authorities on a harrowing chase that began around 7:40 p.m. 

The suspect pushed the limits, hitting speeds of 100 miles per hour on the 405 Freeway, dodging through traffic, and then taking to surface streets where he ran red lights and drove on the wrong side, at times reaching 80 miles per hour.

The Torrance car chase took a dangerous turn as the suspect maneuvered through shopping plazas, narrowly avoiding collisions with other vehicles. The pursuit ended when the suspect abandoned his vehicle at a gated apartment complex in Torrance, fleeing on foot into an apartment believed to be his residence. 

Law enforcement quickly secured the area, evacuating residents for safety before successfully taking the suspect into custody at approximately 9:10 p.m., where a firearm was also found at the scene.
