Officer and Driver Hospitalized After Inglewood Crash [Inglewood, CA]

INGLEWOOD, CA (March 11, 2024) — An early Sunday morning incident in Inglewood, coinciding with the efforts to control a nearby apartment fire, resulted in injuries to a police officer and a motorist. 

The accident happened as emergency services were addressing a fire that erupted around midnight near 97th Street and Prairie Avenue, close to SoFi Stadium. 

Despite the fire being extinguished within 20 minutes, the aftermath required significant cleanup due to the clutter within the premises. Meanwhile, the Red Cross is aiding at least five displaced individuals, as the apartment’s owner remains unaware of the fire.

In response to the fire, Inglewood police had established a roadblock to divert traffic from the area. However, a motorist breached the roadblock around 1:30 a.m., crashing into a stationary police SUV. The collision trapped the officer inside their vehicle, necessitating the removal of the car’s door to extricate them. 

The condition of the police officer and the driver, who may have been under the influence, is under investigation. The Inglewood crash has prompted an inquiry, with authorities and local news seeking updates on the well-being of those involved.
